Salah is a doubt for the Champions League quarter-final second leg after suffering a groin injury in the reverse fixture last week.
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp must take a gamble and start Mohamed Salah against Manchester City, according to Phil Thompson
The Egypt international missed the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday and Klopp is willing to give him every chance to prove his fitness.
But Liverpool legend Thompson believes it is worth risking Salah against City because a top-four finish in the Premier League is all but guaranteed.
“I think one of the big things is Salah has to play and having that three-pronged attack gives us that edge,” Thompson said.
“If we're missing a player who has scored almost 40 goals then that is obviously going to be a blow.
“You will always miss that so it imperative that he plays.
“Because of the Chelsea result on Sunday, it would take a massive implosion not to qualify for the Champions League, so I think as long as he is feeling like he wants to play, I'd say let's go for it.
